The Boxer Gets an Anime, Solo Leveling Casts Han So-hee
Two more manhwa headed for anime, more stars for Netflix's Solo Leveling and what's coming in November.

A week of announcements. Crunchyroll used New York Comic Con to confirm two more manhwa on their way to anime, and Netflix keeps filling its live-action Solo Leveling with familiar faces.
The Boxer and The Remarried Empress are getting anime
On October 8, at its New York Comic Con showcase, Crunchyroll announced two anime based on Korean webtoons.
The first is The Boxer, by JH, which started on NAVER WEBTOON in 2019. Yu is an expressionless kid who doesn’t seem to care about anything, until K, a legendary trainer, spots a talent for boxing in him that’s anything but normal. The anime comes from breccia, the new studio founded by Muneki Ogasawara (one of Kinema Citrus’s founders), together with Korea’s STUDIO JEMI, with scripts by Toshiya Ono. The cast includes Koki Uchiyama (Yu), Kensho Ono (Ryu), Tomokazu Seki (K) and Toshiyuki Toyonaga (J). No release date yet.
One of the best series in the medium: the action is spectacular, but its real strength is the story, the drama and the characters.
If you’d rather not wait, the series is complete (104 chapters plus specials and side stories, as of October 2026) and it’s on WEBTOON.
The second is Alphatart’s The Remarried Empress. On top of the live-action series arriving November 4, there’s now an anime set for 2027: TROYCA animates it, Tetsuya Yanagisawa directs and Crunchyroll will stream it exclusively in select territories. The webtoon’s main story is complete (247 chapters, as of October 2026) and it’s also on WEBTOON.
I’ll admit I haven’t read this one yet, but it’s been a big hit.
Netflix’s Solo Leveling adds Han So-hee and Rain
Netflix has filled out much of the cast of its Solo Leveling series, with Byeon Woo-seok as Sung Jin-woo since July 2025:
- Han So-hee plays Cha Hae-in, the country’s only S-rank huntress.
- Rain (Jung Ji-hoon) plays Baek Yoon-ho, S-rank hunter and leader of the White Tiger Guild.
- Lee Sung-min plays Go Gun-hee, president of the Hunters Association.
- Kang Yoo-seok plays Yoo Jin-ho, the kid who ends up as Jin-woo’s best ally.
No director or release date yet.
There’s some irony here. Solo Leveling is textbook power fantasy, where the supporting cast and the story take a back seat so the protagonist can show how superior he is. Netflix betting big on that very cast might be the best thing that could happen to the adaptation, if it gives them the room the manhwa never did. In the meantime, if you want something similar (but better), here are eight options.
Coming up
- November 4: The Remarried Empress on Disney+ (Hulu in the US), with two new episodes every Wednesday until the 25th.
- November 20: The Blue Road on Netflix. A thriller from Han Jun-hee (D.P.) starring Son Suk-ku and Eita Nagayama: two detectives, one Korean and one Japanese, chasing a string of murders on both sides of the sea. It’s based on Purungil (Blue Road), a 2002 Korean-Japanese comic by Keishi Edogawa and Kaya Kwon.
- Every week: the Overgeared anime continues on Crunchyroll. Everything you need is in our guide.
