SSS-Class Suicide Hunter: Season 5 and the January 2027 Anime
After more than a year away, Kim Gong-ja is back to dying every week. And come January, in anime too.

Double good news for those of us who’ve been waiting a while: SSS-Class Suicide Hunter (officially SSS-Class Revival Hunter in English) is back with its fifth season in Korea, and the anime, due in January 2027, has just dropped a new trailer and most of its cast. Here’s where things stand.
Season 5 is out (in Korean)
Season 4 ended on September 4, 2025 with chapter 151. A year later, on September 25, 2026, season 5 kicked off on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon, according to namu.wiki. As of October 13 it’s already four chapters in, 152 to 155 (MangaUpdates).
Long breaks are a house speciality:
| Season | Chapters | Run | Break before the next |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1-40 | Dec 2020 - May 2021 | 3 months |
| 2 | 41-80 | Aug 2021 - Jul 2022 | 10 months |
| 3 | 81-115 | May 2023 - Mar 2024 | 9 months |
| 4 | 116-151 | Dec 2024 - Sep 2025 | Just over a year |
| 5 | 152- | Since Sep 2026 | — |
If you read Murim Login, this will sound familiar. At least here the wait is over.
Outside Korea
In English, the official Tapas edition finished season 4 in February and there’s no word on season 5. With Tapas shutting down on March 31, 2027, it’s hard to picture season 5 landing there. In print, Yen Press publishes the English edition: volume 5 comes out on December 8. There’s no official Spanish edition.
No-A Sin’s original web novel is complete in Korean at 400 chapters and has an official English translation on Wuxiaworld. That’s the way to go if you don’t want to wait for the webtoon to catch up.
The anime: January 2027, on Crunchyroll
In Japan it’ll be called Shishite Ikiru SSS-kyū Hunter and air on Fuji TV. Outside Japan it’s coming to Crunchyroll, which will simulcast it in North America, Europe and parts of Asia (eToday). We don’t know the exact January date yet.
- Studio: STUDIO fu.
- Director: Hiroaki Sakurai (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.).
- Script: Sayuri Oba. Character design: Takahiro Yoshimatsu.
- Cast: Takeo Otsuka is Kim Gong-ja; Toshiki Masuda plays the Flame Emperor and Satoshi Hino the Sword Emperor. On October 11, seven more voices were added, including Megumi Han and Makoto Furukawa.
- Music: the ending theme is by THE SPELLBOUND and BOOM BOOM SATELLITES.
The second trailer, with English subtitles, is on Crunchyroll’s YouTube channel.
Why read it before the anime
Kim Gong-ja lives in the Tower, a multi-floor structure that works like a role-playing game, envying the famous hunters. When he finally gets a legendary skill, it turns out it only copies the skills of whoever kills him. His first killer is the number one hunter, the Flame Emperor, and from him he copies the ability to go back in time every time he dies.
The name may put you off a bit, but it makes it into the top-tier pantheon. The start is standard (weak protagonist lands a broken skill), but the story quickly moves towards something different, handled masterfully. The climb-the-tower format lets the author play with different genres around a common thread that pulls you in and stirs up strong emotions. A must-read.
Status: ongoing (155 chapters plus a prologue, as of October 2026).
My scores: art 8 · story 10 · characters 9 · humour 8 · action 8. The full series page is here.
Where to read it: on Tapas, in English, up to the end of season 4.
If you want more loops, it’s in my favourite regression manhwa and among the manhwa like Solo Leveling.
You’ve got three months until January: plenty of time to reach the anime knowing why everyone’s talking about this series.
